About the author(s):

Description:

China’s “One Belt, One Road”initiative promises to not only usher in a new era marked by China’s elevation to the status of a geopolitical powerhouse in the region but also bring many opportunities to countries along the belt and the road. On March 28, 2015, China’s top economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), released a new action plan outlining key details of theinitiative. This latest release indicates that the scope of the “Belt and Road”initiative has continued to expand and will now include promotion of enhanced policy coordination, financial integration, trade liberalization, and people-to-people connectivity across Asia. The book examines some of the theoretical and practical issues and questions related to theinitiative, including its essential nature, its specific contents, whether or how it can be sustainable, and many others. The author tries to answer these questions against the general backdrop of China’s peaceful rise in the world, and identify international relations preconditions that must be satisfied before the initiative can be fruitfully executed.
