Description:
An annual report that reflects the development of education in China, The China Educational Development Yearbook contains informative, rich content. It also attaches great importance to empirical studies and the value of research. This book presents the development of compulsory education, vocational education, higher education, education in rural areas, non-government funded education, and early childhood education in China over the past year. A great number of topics related to education are also addressed. For example, the central government is currently writing the “Outline of Middle- and Long-term Educational Reform and Development in China,” which requires that major issues be made available for public discussion and comment. This new policy is part of a process to promote democracy by gathering collective wisdom and reaching a common understanding and consensus. This book also contains a number of surveys inquiring about the status quo of education in China, including a survey conducted about public satisfaction with the education system in major cities in 2008 and a survey on primary and middle boarding schools in rural areas. We believe this book will allow our readers to gain a comprehensive and up to date understanding of education in China.
One cause for concern is the widespread lack of public participation in educational reform in China. This book, compiled by the 21st Century Educational Development Research Academy, reflects our endeavor to change this. This book looks into the status of the education system from a non-governmental perspective. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences hopes to become a non-governmental think tank for education in China.
